  1. Materials: Recycled lumber, bamboo for the floors, soybean or denim insulation.
The home is also faced a certain way that the sunlight passes through and light bulbs are unnecessary during the day.

The benefits are saving up space in a landfill and using less electricity.

  2. There are so many options in green building now, it would be almost impossible to list them all here.

From "earthships" made of earth and recycled tires, to monolithic domes, passive solar construction, homes built into the earth for insulation, homes made of recycled steel shipping containers (some of which are VERY cool), flooring of recycled wood, cork, bamboo, porcelain tiles that look like wood but are easier to care for – work better with in-floor heating and don’t damage as easily as wood, insulated windows – some with quadruple panes and the blinds built in so they will last the lifetime of the house and not need cleaning, solar tube lights, solar roof tiles, wind turbines, water collection systems, low water landscaping options….. there is such an assortment of technologies and possibilities now that it would be impossible to list them all in this answer. The variety and possibilities are endless, fascinating and very, very viable. You could build a very "green" home that is totally individual to you, using a variety of technologies and and be surrounded by other "green" homes with no 2 of them alike.

Good luck with your research if that’s what you’re doing.
