We used tempered glass with low iron.
Plastic is less transparent than glass, meaning that there would be a ~30% reduction in the amount of electricity generated relative to a glass front module that is otherwise identical.
Sorry it has taken a week to respond to this. We’re now thinking along those lines and will be experimenting on the next iteration. We’re not looking at heated panels releasing heat to the water, but rather the sun heating the water prior to the panel. We’ll let you know how it progresses. 😉

Would it be possible to combine solar panels and solar water heater together? Heated panels would release the heat to the water, which could be used in home shower. Then again cooler solar panels work more efficiently and would produce more electricity.
