Currently dining room is medium green. To repain the same? This is a center colonial with an addition of a large open, kitchen/family room. I will also need to put carpet on stairs that run between dining room and living room. ? What color? Yikes! Help! Thanks!
Chocolate brown is neutral, so that leaves you plenty of possibilities, but you must respect 2 rules:
The colour should be lighter, even slightly so, but avoid making a clear-cut contrast (obvious enough if harmony is what you are looking for).
If you want dynamism, be bold & go for saturated shades (of green, turquoise or mauve… even orange). If you want something more peaceful and the room is well-lit, I suggest taupe (cold) or a tawny beige (warmer: if the dining room is facing the north / east).
If your living room is chocolate brown, the dinning room should be a lighter color. Try different shades of tan. Make some of your accessories on brown color, (The same chocolate brown color as in your living room.) You can also use other lighter color as well. Just remember to add some chocolate brown color in your accessories to give a sense of a whole! When you choose your lighter color paint, try putting different paint swatches against your chocolate brown color and seeing which color you like the most to go with it.
