@MoustacheMyMoustache I wish you were right but that’s not what the growth figures are showing. We are on the verge of 7 billion. I remember writing a project back in high school when the population was just over 5 billion!
I bet by the latter half of 2013 we’ll hit that 7 billion mark.
@redrik09 The video above explains it really well. Perhaps ‘produce drinking water’ is a bit misleading. It actually is desalination, so turning sea water into fresh water. And our way of doing this, doesn’t use power but actually produces it.
@cyprusinstitute .. i guess your capturing the water… and filling storage tanks.. so you have control over the water captured.. but not once it evaporates.. or am I being dumb.. does the seas evaporate more some years than in others.. or is it constant over decades?
@cyprusinstitute there is as much water has there has always been.. just because it don’t stay in a man made reservoirs (global tilt etc.) don’t mean water has disappeared.. its just falls as rain somewhere else.. mans time span maybe 100 years.. but the planet is millions..To make more fresh water.. means somewhere there will be more flooding.. as somewhere the rain is just falling naturally as it would.. more water? just means somewhere else..there will be more rain..but not in reservoirs
Obama’s solar scams, and let’s not forget the exceedingly lucrative, well hidden kickbacks, all courtesy of the fleeced taxpayers.
Rapidly expanding population?
For the world to have the same population, everyone needs 1 kid per person. Meaning 2 per couple. Some people have 4+ kids, some don’t. Plus, look at all the disease and infertility of today’s world. The population is increasing, it’s decreasing.
This is the research project which The Cyprus Institute is conducting now. We are killing two birds with one stone by producing drinking water and electricity (both urgently needed in Cyprus) in one plant.
Desalination normally uses a lot of electricity, but this way it produces electricity. See our website for details.
@NearAbbeyRoad Well, i agree it is important to keep some rainforest, not sure how the wildlife would react to radiation, probably not well. Its also important to realise some countries have very arid climates, is it possible to even undo the effects of desertification? How can one turn sand and grit, back into arable soil? The other thing is, i feel it is important, for human culture, that we retain areas of wilderness in the world. It will be sad world when a wilderness no longer exists.
@NearAbbeyRoad, Also there is not even enough nuclear fuel to power the planet for 40 years. If you really think we can support more people you are an idiot.
golf courses, will they demolish all golf courses or keep the golf courses and put water on meters for people?. We have had officials around our area already marking the roads where the meters will go, i haven’t heard of any cutbacks from watering golf courses though?
(I have my water barrelled already) 🙂
@NearAbbeyRoad. Oh god please get your facts str8 first of all james lovelock thinks nuclear is only a good option to fight against fossil fuels not to power the planet! second plants DO NOT like nuclear waste.
This kind of energy in the video is the best viable option we have now.
Also the world cannot cope with this many people that is a lie! even if we go nuclear, NO WAY, agriculture already uses 60% of all fresh water on the planet.
@XeEnjoi
There is more than enough fresh water in the world It is just not in the right locations. There are a number of ways to create fresh from sea water pretty easily. Getting rid of salt can be a problem – probably using ships to dump it in parts of the ocean.
@BVargas78
The world can cope with many, many times the population we have. Look up James Lovelock. He proposes to go all nuclear to save the atmosphere. We dump the waste into rain forests. Plant will grow like crazy as they like radiation. All nuclear to be under an international body for location (not near tidal waves risks), building quality and maintenance levels. As we do with air flight.
Lovelock determined the atmosphere of Mars for NASA and then studied the earth as no one had.
@wightsparky
What is new(ish) is using the suns rays to do it.
First. ‘Not a year goes by without a hose pipe ban’ WRONG.
Second. What is new about boiling sea water seperating salt and water? New invention my arse.
And then what happens when the solar/water stations are maxed out and the population continues to grow? All this does is buy time. Not all countries are overpopulated, but the majority of them are. And when it hits the fan they’ll all be trying to migrate to escape thirst and hunger, while we should just say, door stays shut as we told you this would happen.
@oicub2 where does the other O goes? Where does the energy come from?
@XeEnjoi Herp derp, what do you think water is?
@XeEnjoi H2 + O2 –> Energy & H2O
People should just stop having so many kids.
@oicub2 well actually only 30% of the water on Earth is drinkable and Canada owns 80% of it and its getting worse with population increase and drouths so educate your self not all the water is drinkable
@Downfacingdog get a life
@XeEnjoi You got me , they did irradiate the water with fukushima & corexit ,
But that 2 can be removed “If ” you know how ..
educate yourself
its the food thats the Problem .. don’t eat it .. =-)
@XeEnjoi Fuck-off!
@oicub2 you do know what we have polluted the water so much to the point where we can’t reuse it… educate yourself
