Walmart tops the list of the top 20 largest corporate users of solar power in the US followed by Costco, Kohl’s, IKEA, and Macy’s in the top five. Top users six through ten are McGraw Hill, Johnson and Johnson, Staples, Campbell’s Soup, and Walgreen. The list was compiled by the Solar Energy Industries Association and the Vote Solar Initiative. Wind energy now powers SC Johnson’s largest manufacturing facility in Mt. Pleasant, Wisconsin. Two new turbines have gone online at its Waxdale plant, combining with two cogeneration turbines that have been in place since the mid-2000s to produce 100 percent of the facility’s electrical energy. SC Johnson brands made at Waxdale include Glade and Windex. A new study projects that information and communication technology, ICT, could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 16 percent by 2020. ICT solutions for GHG reductions were identified in six areas: power, transportation, manufacturing, consumer and service, agriculture, and buildings.
