They were light green but I think it is too much green.

I would go a rich caramel or muted gold. They will lighten the effect yet be able to hold their own against the deep forest green without feeling that your washing the room out. Add touches of deep green with cranberry or coral then raspberry and lilac in the warmer months.
If you like a dark colour use a cobalt blue. I have seen it work great in dining rooms, and it will look very good w. the dark green. If you want a lighter colour, go for a Benjamin Moore Linen White, which has a golden sheen to it. Since the LR is so intense, use deep green plants on the DR buffet, and perhaps a table runner in the green, to tie the 2 rooms together.

Red is a classic color for dining rooms. It’s used a lot in restaurants because it enhances the appetite. Look at Crabby Apple #7592 by Sherwin Williams. I’ve used this several times for my clients & it would be beautiful with the green.
