Can a British citizen living in the United States with a green card travel to Cuba without any problems?

My spouse is a British citizen. He is wanting to visit Cuba to do some bird watching. If he was living in the UK there would be no problem. Would he have problems coming back to the US if he goes?

  1. as long as he goes through a third country because of the limitations of US Cuba travel. Passports are not stamped in Cuba because the US has such a hissy fit over Cuba, the Cuban government doesn’t want to cause tourists any problems if they travel to the US.

  2. "Birdwatching?" Right! I too have my doubts about that. tjere are many places in North America and the word to go bird watching…why Cuba? Yes, it is breaking the rules. How valuable is his green card status to him? Why would he even take the chance o endangering his green card status because some others may have "gotten away " with it? Are you going with him? What is his excuse or wanting to go to Cuba., not on of the other Caribbean Islands. Sounds suspect and ridiculous to me.

  3. As he is subject to OFAC rules, unless he travels on a licensed trip he is breaking those rules. Technically, that could cause problems with his green card status.

However, OFAC are not actively enforcing the rules and it is extremely unlikely that his trip would be discovered. Many thousands of US residents have come to Cuba without the necessary licenses.

He will have to travel through a third country and should not mention Cuba when he returns to the US.
