How can you make a "green" home in Kansas?

I’ve been watching a lot of shows about "green" houses (Renovation Nation, World’s Greenest Homes, etc) and it occurred to me that if and when my boyfriend decide to build a house, I’d love to make it as eco friendly as possible. I love the idea of lots of windows as ways to let in natural light as well as to keep a good airflow within the house. Unfortunately, with Kansas springs and summers, there are awful storms (high winds, hail) that could potentially damage many windows, and leaving them open would only invite insects of all sorts inside. So, how would you create a green home in Kansas that would maximize the natural elements (i.e. SUNLIGHT is huge) while minimizing potential damage?

  1. If you live out In the country you’re In Great luck contact some people to build you some small wind mills contact some people to put solar power cells on you’re roof and also contact the city and tell them you are going green and you will be selling some energy back to the power grid you will never have to pay for electricity and you will make money for having these installed.

ask for you’re solar panels to be screwed down to the roof so they don’t fall off during wind storms.
be care full with wind mills place them next to trees that are shorter then the wind mill but also next to a open field so It can catch the wind the trees will add a wind blocker for the base.
