The old regular light bulbs that will be switched out are still good. Am I supposed to just throw them out? That doesn’t seem too "green"…kinda wasteful, don’t you think?

Give them to someone who does crafts or a local girl scout troop to use as a craft. We had a bunch given to us that we used to make Chirstmas ornaments out of.
Give them away.
Use them till they burn out. Good lord was it that hard.
just leave them in place and replace with CFL’s as they burn out
give them away or put them in the closet in case of a blow out you’ll have something for backup
