In washing clothes in hot water will it fade an all green comforter?

My husband just got over the flu and the Dr. told us to wash all the sheets and blankets in hot water, as well as the clothes. If its a dark all green comforter will it fade? Or should I just wash it in cold? please help.

  1. depends on the quaility of material and the dye,as well as the dyeing technic. However it is always smart to use warm or cold water on colors

  2. Hot water will definitely fade a dark-green comforter.

Wash it in cold, with a color-safe detergent, and dry it in the dryer. The germs will not survive the dryer, it’s much hotter than the hot water anyway.

Now if someone has vomited on the comforter, you’ll want to try a different approach. You’ll need to disinfect it as well. Wash it a couple of times (make sure any matter has been removed before running it through the wash), and pour in some Nok-Out or other safe disinfectant along with the detergent. Make sure any stains are gone before popping it into the dryer, or they could end up set for good.

Best of luck, hope you find an answer that works for you!

  3. Hot water will fade and shrink anything, it is best to use One cup of White Vinegar to disinfect this comforter and the sheets wash in warm water and soak for about three hours this will kill the germs and freshen and even remove stains and brighten the whole wash colors will come out brighter do not add any detergent to this method as this will lessen the effect of the vinegar, you can put the vinegar in the rinse water of the following wash loads to remove odors and kill germs and stains and remove residues left behind from detergents also removes stains that was left behind from the wash just add half cup to the rinse or fill your fabric softner dispenser do not add fabric softners to wash or dryer loads as vinegar will soften and lessen static cling when performing the above method for disinfecting washloads set washer on full cycle Good Luck !

  4. if the doctor says to wash the sheets in hot water then you should do it. all you have to do is get a colour guard detergent for example cheer.

  5. I wouldn’t necessarilly agree with your doctor’s advice. There are products you can add to the wash that will get rid of germs. Check out the laundry products aisle. Most are even made to use cold water, but if you’d feel better, use warm.. just not hot. Most detergents will do the trick anyway.

  6. Yes it will fade and it will cause shrinkage. I You can add a bottle of hydrogen peroxide to the wash and wash on cold. It will not fade the comforter and it kills germs.

  7. You want to wash all colors in cold water NO BLEACH unless its a bleach for colored clothes

  8. It may well fade – have you looked at its washing label?
As for getting rid of all the bacteria – your detergent will do that…..so wash at a low or cold temperature.

  9. shouldn’t if it is a decent brand, if you bought it at biglots or kmart i wouldn’t wach it in hot water… Read the care tag on the comforter… it might shrink if it is a high percentage of cotton

  10. Wash the sheets in hot water but wash the comforter in cold. Hopefully you can dry the comforter because the heat in the dryer should take care of all of the leftover germs. If you can’t use the dryer for the comforter, try spraying it with Lysol spray. This should work. Boy, he must have had a real rough flu, huh? Hope he’s much better.
